Evening stroll

After spending all weekend at the computer, finishing up another pile of assignments (endless!), I just had to get out for a walk.  So even though it was already getting dusky I decided to go out for a walk, perhaps stroll around Nogeyama park just up the block.

So glad I did!

I discovered all sorts of evening sights waiting for me.  There were lots of people out walking dogs, and kids playing basketball and soccer.  Very lively.  Reminded me there is a world beyond grammar and kanji. But best of all was when I turned to look at the sunset - a gorgeous ember-y mix of oranges and reds this evening - and saw the amazing, perfectly silhouetted form of Mt. Fuji looming gigantically, right there in front of my eyes!  How come I've never noticed it before???  Oh wait, I come from the land of Mt. Rainier, where the question, "Is the mountain out?" was born.  Obviously, due to the haze, smog, clouds, etc up till now Mt. Fuji has not been out when I've been looking.

I did my best to get a picture for you all, but what with surrounding trees, houses, etc and only having the mini-camera on my cell phone, this was the best I could do:

Anyway, to add to the evening beauty, looking in the direction exactly opposite from Mt. Fuji, I could see the giant ferris wheel that I've posted pictures of before.  But tonight it was lit up with an all new light show!  Using the entire rainbow of colors, in went through an endless series of pinwheel-type spinning shapes as well as other waves and motions of colors along the spokes and the rim.  I caught another couple pictures of it as well (again, sadly, only with my tiny camera.  Who knew I'd want my real one on an evening stroll???).

So that's all for now.  Just two weeks of class left this quarter.  I might just survive after all...
