I have a continually growing collection of "You Have Mail" notices piling up from the Japan Postal Service. Here are two from this week:
Seems that entities here are much more careful about sending valuable documents through the mail. Recently I've received my health insurance paperwork, my bank card, and my health insurance card all via registered mail. Not like the US, where anything from an ATM card to a credit card to my US passport just gets dumped in my mailbox.
The main downside is, I'm never home to sign for these registered items. So the first time I carefully followed the instructions about calling in to the JPS call center. After 10 painful minutes using my rusty Japanese (probably more painful for the postal employee than for me) we managed to identify my parcel and schedule it for redelivery. The next time, I spent more time reading the notice and discovered that I had an option besides calling in: I could schedule redelivery online. So I figured out how to do that. And now I think I'm getting to be an expert - I can whip through the online form and fill in all the boxes correctly the first time through in a mere minute or two.
And you know the best part? It's not only the fact that the JPS redelivers (versus me having to go in and stand in line to pick up the item), it's the fact that they'll come out the very same evening and within a designated time window at that! So sometime between 6 and 9 pm tonight, I expect my latest package to arrive.
I wonder what document it is that I'm receiving this time?
The quality of delivery of anything in Japan is simply amazing. I took in for granted until I moved to France....
ReplyDeleteAh, Sanae, I feel your pain...I remember some of the horror stories you've told in describing the French postal "service".
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of which--what's your address? Us, stateside people, might want to send a missive!
ReplyDeleteHey Teresa - and anyone else interested in my address!
ReplyDeletePost here if you would like it, and I'll email it to you separately. Not ready to post it publicly...
Thanks!
Margie
Please send your postal address to me, Margie. Thank you. I'm still trying to figure out what the "Comment as:" feature means. So far, it has killed every comment I've tried to post. Will try again. Pat
ReplyDeleteHi Pat,
ReplyDeleteThanks for persevering! I've just emailed you my address. :)
Best,
Margie
